Mochtín lies six kilometres southeast of Klatovy. The first written record of the village dates to 1398.

A modest château stands in the centre of Mochtín, beside the road from Klatovy to Strakonice; it was probably built in 1868. From the late 19th century, Mochtín was home to the first Czech factory producing chicory coffee substitute.
